This short post is to spread the word about an excellent diagram I saw recently courtesy of MPUG, the Microsoft Project User's Group. The diagram takes on the ambitious task of mapping the PMBOK's 5 process areas and 9 knowledge areas to Microsoft Project features and activities.
You’ll find the diagram here (opens PDF file).
I’ve often said that even expert Project users can cover some but not all of the PMBOK knowledge areas. I think this diagram speaks well to all of the knowledge areas. What do you think?
Don't know what the PMBOK is? Here's how we described in Project Step by Step:
A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge—published by the PMI and referred to as the PMBOK (pronounced “pimbok”) describes generally accepted project- management practices, knowledge areas, and terminology.
The PMBOK is a deceptively slim little volume, and worth having even if you don't intend to ever pursue the PMP credential.
